Welcome to the 8th annual Wild West Mountain cycle classic. Huia from the air
This is the toughest one day Road Cycling Challenge in NZ with 1936m of climbing/decsending it has more climbing per kilometre than any other event. Thats nearly 6000ft of ascent and descent in 83k!!
Challenge yourself on the climbs and Revel in the awesome descents.
Experience the fun, magic and beauty of cycling New Zealands official Scenic drive through the Waitakere ranges on the rugged west coast outside of Auckland.  The views of the native bush and beaches will astound you.

This is New Zealands very own Liege-Bastogne-Liege!. The NEW start/finish is at a beautiful park on the edge of the magical Huia bay.

To Qualify to enter: Rider Qualifications:
You must have either ridden this event before OR participated and completed the K1 or K2 or the 160k Lake Taupo challenge [Or other similar testing events]. No racing license is required. Open to riders 15+ years and older. Recommended lowest gear 39/27 (for the Dam Hill)

Elite: 19+ years
Senior/Open: 19 - 34 years
Juniors: 15 -18 years 
Masters: 35 - 44 years
Veterans: 45 - 54 years
Super Vets: 55 - 64 years
Grand Masters: 65+
2 Person Teams (any age) 


This competitive sport ride has lots of climbing, and we encourage you to train seriously for the event and achieve your personal best.

Course:
Starting in Huia bay (the previous years turn around point) the course starts climbing and descending right away on the way to Woodland park traversing the Very Steep Dam hill climb. Then turning onto Scenic drive the roller coaster along the top of the Waitakere ranges before descending for 3k off the mountain towards Swanson. A sharp left turn brings you back to the Bethels rd (2k climb and 2k descent) before the stair climb back up onto Scenic drive this time head back across to Titirangi. Dropping fast out of Titirangi towards Huia and onto the rollers of the Huia rd and now down that Dam Hill before descending to finish in beautiful Huia.

83k follows the Yellow arrows.

Directions to start:
Take the Auckland/Kumeu Northwestern Motorway to the (Highway 11) Great North Rd exit. Continue on to Ash st, Rata st and Titirangi rd. Turn left onto Huia rd, continue to the Huia Village Domain park which is on the left (300m) past the Huia store.

Huia Lodge: Sleeps 24, Fully equipped kitchen. Fridge freezer even a washing machine.

Directions:
Follow Huia Road, look for Karamatura Farm entrance sign. The campsite is 100m up access road. Campsite is in paddock next to car park.
Cost:
Adult $5 per person per night
Child $3 per person per night

Attention! ALL THE ROADS ARE OPEN TO ALL VEHICLE TRAFFIC. YOU MUST OBEY AND FOLLOW THE NEW ZEALAND ROAD CODE (INCLUDING GIVE WAY SIGNS, STOP SIGNS, RAILWAY CROSSINGS) AND EVENT RULES OR FACE IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFACTION.

No supporters vehicles to directly follow the events!

Prizes:
up to $5,000+ in spot and cash prizes
including $1000 in cash prizes for fastest 3 riders.
Trophies for 1st Place in each age group category.
Cash prizes for First/Second/Third overall
1st: $500
2nd: $300
3rd: $200


Massage:
Get a massage after your ride. $10 for 10 minutes.

Prizegiving:
Prize giving at 12.30pm. (You must be present at the prize giving to recieve prizes)

Safety and support:
Everyone must wear a helmet, ride a safe bicycle, carry a spare/tools, and obey all road rules, marshals and organisers instructions. Paramedical personal will follow the events and be on hand for rider support. 

Feed zones:
3 Neutral drink top up stations. [2x Along Scenic drive][Top of bethels rd hill]. Elite riders supporters must feed there riders in these areas.

Entry Fees
Solo 83k: $75 (includes sponsors goodies)
Solo 30k: $55 (includes sponsors goodies)
